M83 - Midnight City
From the Album - Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming

*Note: Catchy lil’ ditty. On my mind, stuck in my head, leakin’ from the earhole.

P.S. Named the best track of 2011 by Pitchfork.

Currently Listening To:

The Raveonettes - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
From the Album - Wishing You a Rave Christmas EP

*Note: Wow, I haven’t posted in such a long time! I’m a bit uneasy about this because I hope I’m not letting people down. I’ve been stockpiling new tunes like mad, but hustle and bustle are the name of the game these days, so this song is a welcome change. It’s pure genius as far as I’m concerned. Their whole Christmas EP is refreshing and evokes an unparalleled buzzy-fuzzy nostalgia in my busy little heart. Sigh…

P.S. If you dig what you hear, check out the 1963 album A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector. I know the man is a crazy, big-haired, gun-toting recluse, but he created one of the best Christmas albums of all-time. It’s so, so good.

BAND TO WATCH ALERT!

Currently Listening To:

JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound - I Am Trying to Break Your Heart
From the Album - Want More

*Note: Oooooh baby! I just won tickets to see these guys perform next week! Get on this sound, ya’ dig?

P.S. Not really a Wilco fan (I know, I know, kill me now…), but this version of their classic makes me smiley happy.

BAND TO WATCH ALERT!

Currently Listening To:

Tame Impala - Solitude is Bliss
From the Album - Innerspeaker

*Note: I’ve been listening to Tame Impala for well over a year now and they continue to impress me. This song particularly worked it’s way under my skin and has been swimming around my consciousness for the past month. Somehow it makes me think about ushering in the change from Summer to Fall. It’s so refreshing to hear real, pure rock music again.

FLASHBACK ALERT!

"But I say it’s only mountains and the sea. Love will conquer if U just believe."

Currently Listening To:

Prince & the Revolution - Mountains
From the Album - Parade: Music from the Motion Picture “Under the Cherry Moon”

*Note: RAD. The adorable Fred Armisen just created a spiffy little playlist which made me remember a long-lost Prince song from my youth, Mountains. I was the only 9 year old I knew listening to the Under the Cherry Moon soundtrack. Standard. It was a much criticized and underrated album at the time. What made it unpopular, was what I loved: a wide array of musical styles. Its mainstream popularity is clearly being reconsidered, as it should be.

ARTIST TO WATCH ALERT!

Currently Listening To:

Michael Kiwanuka - Tell Me a Tale
From the Album - Tell Me a Tale (The Isle of Wight Sessions) - Single

*Note: Uh oh…I’m in love, and it’s serious. Now it’s time for a mini tantrum! It’s not fair that iTunes US only has 3 Michael Kiwanuka songs available! The UK is already ahead of the game with an additional EP. Torture, sweet torture.

BAND TO WATCH ALERT!

Currently Listening To:

Bell X1 - Velcro
From the Album - Bloodless Coup

*Note: Currently in love with this genius little rock band from Ireland. I can easily hear shades of Radiohead, Joy Division and U2, but they definitely possess enough originality to avoid being pigeonholed with their contemporaries. The New Wave feel extends a fresh hopefulness to their music. Looking forward to seeing them perform this Fall.

ARTIST TO WATCH ALERT!

"Mother of night, forgive me my heart."

Currently Listening To:

Dax Riggs - Gravedirt on My Blue Suede Shoes
From the Album - Say Goodnight to the World

*Note: Sometimes life can get so insanely busy you don’t know where the time goes. And, sometimes, a song becomes your medicine for inexplicable reasons. This song is suddenly my mysterious muse amidst the current chaos. On a hilarious subconscious note, my recent purchase might have something to do with it.
